Ocean’s economy building international linkages 02 May 2017

The World Ocean Council (WOC) held their annual summit in Rotterdam, Netherlands between 30 November - 2 December 2016. The theme “Ocean 2030: Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Ocean Business Community” deliberately wanted to interpret the United Nations 2016-2030 SDGs into actionable targets for representatives from shipping, oil and gas, fisheries, aquaculture, ports, mining, finance, renewable offshore energy, tourism, marine technology and other key ocean stakeholders.

One month in China 12 December 2016

The 2016 Port and Shipping Talent Advanced Training Programme started on the 5th of September at the Shanghai Maritime University’s (SMU) Shanghai Advanced Institute of International Shipping. Thirty trainees from seven countries, namely Sri Lanka, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Togo, Tanzania, South Africa and Kenya attended the one month professional training programme. The programme was sponsored by the China Merchants Charitable Foundation (CMCF), China Merchants Port Holdings (CMPort) and organised by the “China Merchants C Blue Training Programme” Charitable project. The Graduate School’s Ms Nomtha Hadi represented NMMU on the programme.

On the 5th of November we were proud to host the ‘Execution and Revenue: How to Launch a Successful Business’ workshop, with Gail Kerr. Ms Kerr led attendees through the steps of growing business ideas and concepts. These steps included: how to make no-go decisions, when and what to present if you need an investment. Gail also touched on creating a competitive advantage through reducing inventories and shortening emergency delivery times, translating into hard cash.

Another two MBA full-time students to study abroad at ESB, Germany in 2016 30 March 2016

Two full-time NMMU MBA students became only the second group of MBA students to be given the opportunity to study abroad at the European School of Business (ESB) at Reutlingen University in Germany. The two students, Yolanda Colesky (YC) and Grant Greyling (GG), were selected to complete their MBA elective modules at one of Europe’s foremost business schools, the European School of Business (ESB) at Reutlingen University in Germany.
